When i was in New York last week i happily came upon this Kate Spade store while i was waiting for a friend to get off of work. We all know i am a big fan of the brand and usually when i am in Manhattan i visit the Broome St. store so it was a treat to visit one i had never been to. I loved the striped "runway" that is painted on the outside of the store, and the sequined wall is fabulous! enjoy a few photos...

Extreme Home Makeover

So every Sunday we sit down to watch TV and most likely since it's on just before Desperate Housewives we end up watching Extreme Home Makeover. It's obviously a really nice show, however i always cringe whenever they are asking kids what they like to do- i just want to say be careful kid because you're about the get the craziest themed room ever! The houses are always beautiful but last Sunday's really got my attention. This Connecticut house is quite possibly my personal dream home. The blue facade, the all-white kitchen, the black and white wallpaper print. i love it all. So here are few pictures of their 1 week masterpiece.

The Spy Wore Red.

Currently the book club i am in is reading this fabulous book "The Spy Wore Red", it is this marvelous account by Aline Griffith of being a spy during WWII in Spain. Her very important espionage quest is to make her way to the top of spanish society and find out who Hemmler's top spy is within. I am only about a 3rd done at this point, but i am completely enthralled. Oh did i mention that before she was a spy she was a model in NY? how glamorous right?! she also becomes a countess in Spain after the whole spy thing... here are some photos of the author.

A Few More Home Ideas

Since moving into my cute little townhouse i have felt a little overwhelmed with the whole decorating aspect- it just seems so permanent- for example i just feel like i can't put anything on the walls unless it is in a frame, and frames are expensive and so very little seems to be getting onto the walls :). It just feels so different from an apartment because it is ours- and yet i am terrified to paint or make huge decisions because i keep fearing that i won't like it next year... Oh the drama.. :)

This weekend when i was at home in Nashville i took note of these really cool posters that always hang in the mall at green hills. Well it turns out you can purchase prints for around $30! We have been talking about doing a vintage poster collection with all the posters featuring places that we have lived and/or are of importance to us. Now i just have to pick which of these i like the most! i'm pretty sure the pancake pantry one would go perfect in my kitchen :)

I have been so busy lately! between moving my house and studio, making a few wedding dresses AND a store in Prairie Village picked up the bags so I've been making a ton of totes. You can now purchase the totes at the Curious Sofa!! It is a beautiful home goods store in the shops at Prairie Village so go check it out! Here are a few images of some of the totes and Jill's new bed. i made it out of a couple different sacks and then a 30 x 30 pillow- which is too small for Jack but she loves it! I really enjoy the food & cooking blog Smitten Kitchen. The recipes are fabulous and the in process photos are beautiful and functional. i was just reading on her about page and this paragraph made me like her even more:

So it's official we are moving into our first house! we are so excited and can't wait to move in, one of the most exciting things is that the builder is finishing the basement and since it's a much bigger space- I'm going to move the studio! I have to say it will be nice to be able to work when i have free time during the evenings or weekends without having to drive in to the studio, and to just be able to walk upstairs to get lunch- well that's enough incentive right there! These photos are of the framing which went up on Monday! I will keep you updated with the rest of the progress! But just a little teaser- the floor is going to be stained Aqua!! :)

A Couple of years ago at an antique store in Jacksonville Florida I came across vintage Pyrex dishes and ever since I have been wanting a set of my own. Something about them is so charming that I'm always searching to find the best set for the best price (because they tend to be a little pricey). Marriage in America

I just started getting a subscription to TIME and although i have about 15 magazines coming every month that i never end up reading cover to cover, i have found myself these last 3 weeks reading all the articles in my weekly news update. Yesterday i opened the mailbox to find the above cover picture. For someone in the wedding industry it's not really what you want to see hitting the cover of a national magazine but i found myself completely agreeing with everything in the article. I found it very timely as last week in the news we were hearing about Governor Mark Stanford and his Argentinean "soul mate". I guess what particularly bothered me as i heard those reports was not only the fact that he had cheated but instead of being remorseful he justified his actions by trying to appeal to our American sense of finding something better and therefore it makes it OK. i also thought it was especially interesting that he always added- "and i'm going to work things out with my wife" well good start buddy because you just told the world your soul mate is someone else. In my opinion he doesn't want to work it out.

The article also talks about Jon & Kate plus 8 just after their announce of divorce. The interesting thing about Americans is that we lie to each other and ourselves when we say that divorce is ok for children. Here is an excerpt from the article.
"Few things hamper a child as much as not having a father at home. "As a feminist, I didn't want to believe it," says Maria Kefalas, a sociologist who studies marriage and family issues and co-authored a seminal book on low-income mothers called Promises I Can Keep: Why Poor Women Put Motherhood Before Marriage. "Women always tell me, 'I can be a mother and a father to a child,' but it's not true." Growing up without a father has a deep psychological effect on a child. "The mom may not need that man," Kefalas says, "but her children still do."

"America's obsession with high-profile marriage flameouts — the Gosselins and the Sanfords and the Edwardses — reflects a collective ambivalence toward the institution: our wish that we could land ourselves in a lasting union, mixed with our feeling of vindication, or even relief, when a standard bearer for the "traditional family" fails to pull it off. This is ultimately self-defeating. And in the end i think most American's have forgot that marriage is not a string of fun dates, romantic vacations, and perfect happiness that it is as the article states "A lasting marriage is the reward, usually, of hard work and self-sacrifice."

Fourth of July Weekend

We had a fabulous weekend with friends and family here in Kansas City. My husband's mom, stepdad, brother, sister-in-law and 1 year old all stayed with us and after fire works and BBQ's i was a little exhausted today! so I'm sorry this post is a little late today. Here are a few photos from the weekend, one of which is the ice cream watermelon cake i attempted to make. It was really good i just should have let it freeze for a little longer! I'm so in love with the beautiful colors of the fresh veggies we grilled on Friday night.

My husband and i have been checking out a lot of new places to eat and snack here in Kansas City thanks to the Eat.Shop guide that just came out. One of the local vendors they suggest is this little trailer that is set up on Saturday's at the park at 17th and Summit (right across from the bluebird bistro) that sells snow cones with the syrups made from all Real,Natural and Local Ingredients!! I was bummed she was out of the watermelon basil, but my Agave Hydrangea was so wonderful. We also tried the Lemon Prickly Pear and the Blackberry Lavender which were also very yummy.

My favorite magazine at one time was Blueprint. I honest to goodness wish all the time that it was still in production because it was the perfect fit for me. It was a Martha Stewart publication for twenty-somethings. I still have all my copies, every copy that was ever in print you can find in my apartment with dog eared pages and notes in the margins, One photo-shoot which i particularly loved was the below shoot of this amazing beach cottage. I apologize for being an absent blogger, i was on vacation last week in South Florida and just returned, our 2 year anniversary was yesterday and now I'm finally back to reality, i thought i would start off today by showing you a little slice of beach Heaven that is called Palm Beach. I'm in love with all of these homes. Particularly the huge white and blue one about half way down the post that has guest quarters! Not to mention that all of these are only about a half a jump from the sand and beautiful Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy looking at these gorgeous homes.

We also had a fabulous time strolling down Worth Avenue. Probably one of the most posh shopping streets next to Rodeo Drive. It was just gorgeous as well, just think you would never need to leave!

If you look closely at the photo below i am standing in front of an adorable building that is just to the right of Tiffany's and it's available!! Oh what i would give to open up our first bridal boutique there!

I have a new obsession, its called Polish Pottery. Why had i never heard or seen this beautiful dishware before, i have no idea?! But it's amazing. i went over to Mary's house and she had this amazing collection below- i had to take a photograph and blog about it. There are a lot of patterns to choose from, but i love how she has mix and match pieces. Incredible! Looks like i know what i want for every holiday from now on!

Meg Moffat is getting married TODAY in a custom dress i made, It's an adorable dress but when Meg puts it on the dress takes a whole new dimension, this bride really makes this dress! The photos of Meg and her new husband Chris were taken this week as her "bridals" which i think it is a great idea to go ahead and get pictures with your hubby- that way you're not rushed on your wedding day! They were taken by Auburn Jones Photography. I can't wait to get pictures of the actual event that is happening tonight- a super cute backyard party after the wedding at the Mesa, AZ L.D.S Temple.

Mary's Cute Dresses

I made these dresses for Mary. She is such a lovely woman and we had so much fun making her these cute summer dresses as well as the polka-dot dress that is for her bridal shower. She is getting married in October! She also ordered the "Lucy" for her bridal shower! I can't wait to finish that and see her in it. It was truly fate that we met at the Kansas City bridal show, I think we will keep in touch for a long while to come.

I have been in love with the Holga camera since my college friend Ben took me with him to a camera store to buy his. In the picture above is one of the tables at my wedding reception on the beach. Each table had it's own Holga to take photos of the guests and the wedding. Since the camera's are only $19 and i only had a few tables it was totally reasonable to do, and i sold them all afterwards on Amazon. But more importantly the photos that i got from those cameras are so amazing- first they are all 5"x5"- Sqaure, which i just love and holga's have a tendency to look vintage and sometimes they double expose and cool effects happen. Yesterday when i was looking through blogs i came across photographer Leo Patrone who did the whole wedding below on his Holga. I LOVE IT!

The Studio

The vintage pictures on the wall are all taken from my archive collection of 50's & 60's Vogues. They are just color copied, glued on matt board and hung with a ribbon, an easy and cute decor idea!

So along with everyone else i have been desperatly missing Project Runway, and although this new Bravo show is not exactly the same, I'm loving every minute! The premier was tonight (just finished it) and i have to say I'm a little disappointed in the outfits tonight but I'm sure they will bring it in the coming weeks. Also i LOVE Isaac Mizrahi- I've always been a fan but the biggest question of the whole show is WHY is Kelly Rowland the other host? Seriously she is the lamest part of the show. Maybe she will prove me wrong in coming weeks but i find her so irrelevent. I also think its fabulous that you can purchase each weeks winning outfit on bravotv.com. Can i just say that i was pleasantly surprised with the impeccable service we received on Saturday at the Neiman Marcus in downtown Dallas. I'm currently in Dallas visiting a good friend from college and we went with another friend to try on wedding dresses. The Bridal Boutique was gorgeous with an amazing selection of designer dresses. Hopefully one day they will be selling my line!

I absolutely LOVED the dressing rooms, they were big enough for an entire bridal party to sit, have a drink and watch the bride try on dresses. It was fabulous!

Recently i have been enjoying swaptree.com, it's this amazing media swap website that allows you to make a list of items you have and are willing to trade and then a list of items that you want; items can be books, dvds, cds, or video games. Then once you create your have list the website will allow you to see items you can get by trading items that are on your have list. Once you make the want list it will also show you the items on your want list you can get by trading the items that you have, it's algorithims match you up with the people who have what you want and want what you have! Its the perfect way to recycle your books while at the same time getting something off your want to read list thats been compiling in your planner (ok maybe i'm the only one that has a running list of books to read). The other great thing about the site is that instead of having to wait in the annoying post office line you can print a shipping label right off their site so that all you have to do is print it off, tape it on the envelope and put it in your mailbox! This site has been so easy to use and i've been amazed at the books i've been able to get for a swap! Above you can see an example of what it looks like once a trade is accepted. I have a million cupcake cookbooks so i decided to trade one and i got Three Cups of Tea which ive been really wanting to read! Honestly this site gets 5 stars!

There is a lot of things i love about Zooey Deschanel like the fact that she looks like she just walked out of forties Hollywood. I think that i first took note of her when she starred in Elf with Will Farrell, not only is it one of my favorite movies but i fell in love with the soundtrack- specifically the version of "Baby its Cold Outside" where Zooey sings the female part. She's quirky and funny and cute and lets be honest i just really want to make her a dress or two. So when i saw the below commerical yesterday for cotton inc. i felt compelled to share it with everyone, the clothes are cute and her voice is even sweeter!

I always love when InStyle Magazine comes out with their Best Beauty Buys every year and this year i decided to take their advice and try Essie's Mademoiselle nail polish.
Verdict in: I love it! just the perfect amount of sheer pink to make you feel put together and polished. I also love that i won't feel like i need to change polish every time i change clothes, a pet peeve of mine. It's a perfect color for Spring!

Green Wedding Ideas!

In honor of Earth Day i thought i would give all you eco-conscious brides a few green ideas to keep in mind while planning your wedding.

-Even small things count like having the ceremony and reception at the same location, or at least near to each other to avoid extra driving.

The Reception
-If you are having an outdoor wedding, or will be having casual rehearsal dinner/weekend events for your guests, consider using biodegradable, compostable dishes and flatware made from cornstarch, sugar cane, or tropical leaves.

Find a Caterer who will use all in season locally farmed food for your menu, trust me it will be even more delicious! If you go by the farmer's market and ask around the farmers will most likely be able to point you in the direction of a few caterers who use their produce! LocalHarvest.org will help you find a market in your area.

-Donate your food and flowers - donate your flowers to a nursing home and the leftover food from your reception to a homeless shelter or “soup kitchen.” Spread the joy from your day to those who are less fortunate. This will be sure to brighten the day for many and also make you feel good too!
